Answer at a glance

What is HBOT?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a treatment in which you breathe oxygen-enriched air inside a pressurized chamber, dramatically increasing the amount of oxygen dissolved in your blood and tissues. At Aesura Health's Longevity Lounge in Hackensack, NJ, we use a soft-shell hyperbaric chamber pressurized to 1.5 ATA — the optimal pressure for wellness, recovery, and longevity-focused use. Most patients do 60 to 90 minute sessions, in a series of 10 to 40 sessions depending on their goals.

Oxygen is the most fundamental molecule in the body. HBOT increases how much oxygen reaches every tissue — including areas with poor circulation that often heal slowly. It's a quiet, easy hour that does serious work behind the scenes.

What is HBOT

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy combines pressurized air with oxygen-enriched breathing. Under increased pressure, oxygen dissolves directly into your plasma and reaches tissues that red blood cells alone can't fully serve. This includes areas of chronic inflammation, slow-healing tissue, and the brain.

The increased oxygen environment triggers a cascade of effects: stimulated stem cell mobilization, reduced inflammation, improved mitochondrial function, new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), and accelerated tissue repair.

Our chamber — soft-shell, 1.5 ATA

We use a soft-shell hyperbaric chamber pressurized to 1.5 ATA (atmospheres absolute). This is the wellness and longevity-focused pressure — well-tolerated, well-studied, and the right tool for most patients seeking recovery, cognitive support, anti-aging, and inflammation benefits.

Soft-shell chambers at 1.5 ATA are easier to enter, more comfortable for patients with claustrophobia, and produce excellent results for the majority of wellness and longevity indications. Hard-shell hospital-grade chambers at higher pressures (2.0 to 2.4 ATA) are reserved for FDA-approved medical indications and are not the right tool for most longevity-focused use.

What we use HBOT for

  • Recovery from training, surgery, or injury
  • Cognitive support and brain fog
  • Post-concussion symptoms
  • Long COVID and post-viral recovery
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Skin quality and collagen support
  • Anti-aging and longevity programs
  • Performance optimization
  • Pre- and post-surgical preparation

We frequently use HBOT in our integrated longevity programs alongside peptide therapy, NAD+ infusions, hormone optimization, and red light therapy.

What to expect at your session

You'll change into comfortable clothes, leaving electronics outside the chamber. Inside, you'll lie back on a padded surface as we slowly pressurize over 5 to 10 minutes — you'll feel pressure in your ears (just like flying) and we'll guide you through equalization.

At pressure, you'll breathe through a comfortable mask delivering oxygen-enriched air. Most patients listen to music, watch a show on a tablet outside the chamber window, nap, or meditate. After 60 to 90 minutes at pressure, we slowly depressurize over 5 to 10 minutes.

There's no recovery time. Most patients feel calm and clear-headed afterward; some report increased energy or improved sleep that night.

Recommended session count

  • Wellness and energy: 10 to 20 sessions, 2 to 3 times per week.
  • Cognitive and recovery focus: 20 to 40 sessions, 3 to 5 times per week.
  • Maintenance once your initial series is complete: 1 to 2 sessions per week or as needed for events, travel, or high-demand periods.

Service area

Soft-shell HBOT at 1.5 ATA, in Bergen County.

Patients come to the Aesura Longevity Lounge for HBOT from Hackensack, Paramus, Teaneck, Englewood, Fort Lee, Tenafly, River Edge, Rochelle Park, and across North Jersey — often searching for soft-shell chambers, 1.5 ATA wellness HBOT, and post-concussion recovery near them.

Safety and screening

HBOT is safe for most adults. We screen for untreated pneumothorax (a hard contraindication), recent ear surgery, severe sinus issues, certain pulmonary conditions, and current pregnancy. Patients on chemotherapy or with implanted medical devices need physician clearance.

Stack a visit

Pair HBOT with IV infusion.

Lighter drips (hydration, immune, recovery, neuro) can be scheduled so the infusion completes during your HBOT session — one visit, two modalities working in parallel. NAD+ infusions run separately — sequenced before or after HBOT — because they require dedicated monitoring and cannot enter the chamber.

  • Oxidative Recovery DripFor inflammation and immune support during a recovery series — runs in parallel with HBOT.
  • Neuro Restore DripFor cognitive and energy goals — pairs naturally with HBOT's brain effects.
  • Aesura Longevity Infusion (NAD+)Sequenced before or after HBOT — not during. Same visit, separate windows.

Frequently asked

HBOT, answered.

The questions Bergen County patients ask before booking.

Is a 1.5 ATA soft chamber 'real' HBOT?
Yes — for wellness, recovery, longevity, and cognitive applications. 1.5 ATA is the most-studied wellness pressure and produces measurable physiological changes including increased plasma oxygen and stem cell mobilization. Higher-pressure hard-shell chambers (2.0 to 2.4 ATA) are reserved for specific FDA-approved medical conditions like decompression sickness, severe wounds, and carbon monoxide poisoning — and are not the right tool for most longevity-focused use.
Is it claustrophobic?
Soft-shell chambers feel much more open than hospital hard-shell tubes. You can see out, communicate with our team continuously, and most patients fall asleep. We help first-time patients ease in and stay with you through the entire session.
Can I bring my phone or laptop inside?
Electronics with batteries stay outside the chamber for safety. We have a window so you can watch a tablet propped just outside, or you're welcome to bring your own headphones for music or audio.
How long until I see results?
Some patients notice mental clarity and improved sleep after 1 to 3 sessions. Tissue-level recovery and chronic inflammation benefits build over 10 to 40 sessions.
Can I do HBOT while pregnant?
We don't perform HBOT during pregnancy outside specific OB-cleared medical indications.
Does insurance cover HBOT?
Insurance covers HBOT only for specific FDA-approved hospital indications (severe wounds, decompression sickness, etc.). Wellness and longevity HBOT is paid out of pocket. We offer single sessions, packages, and Longevity Lounge memberships.
Can I combine HBOT with red light or cryotherapy?
Yes — and we encourage it. A common Longevity Lounge stack is IV first, HBOT during, then red light or cryotherapy after. We help you sequence based on your goals.
Will my ears pop?
Yes — just like flying. Pressurization happens slowly. We coach you through swallowing, yawning, or the Valsalva maneuver to equalize. Patients with active cold or sinus congestion should reschedule.
