Answer at a glance

What is hair restoration at Aesura Health?

Hair restoration at Aesura combines platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) scalp injections with physician-led medical management of the underlying drivers of hair loss. Plans typically include lab workup (iron, ferritin, thyroid, vitamin D, hormonal panels), a 3 to 6 session PRP/PRF series, and integration with proven therapies like minoxidil, finasteride, or dutasteride. We treat both male- and female-pattern hair loss in patients who still have viable follicles to work with.

If you've been told "hair loss is just genetic, here's some minoxidil" — that's a partial answer. Genetic predisposition matters, but iron, thyroid, hormones, stress, and nutrient status all influence whether and how fast you shed. Treating only one factor leaves results on the table. We treat all of them. Bergen County patients drive in from Alpine, Saddle River, and Tenafly — twelve minutes from the GWB.

How PRP/PRF works for hair

A small blood draw (about 2–4 tablespoons) is processed in a sterile centrifuge. The platelet-rich layer is concentrated and injected into the scalp at the level of the hair follicle. The growth factors — PDGF, VEGF, IGF-1, FGF, EGF — signal three things to the follicle:

  • Anagen extension — the growth phase of the hair cycle is lengthened
  • Miniaturization reversal — fine, "wispy" hairs are nudged back toward thicker hairs
  • Microvascular support — new blood-vessel formation supports follicle health

The questions Bergen County patients ask before booking PRP for hair.

How much does PRP hair restoration cost in Hackensack, NJ at Aesura?
PRP hair restoration at Aesura is typically $750–$950 per session. Most plans use a series of 3 to 6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance every 6 months. PRF is offered at the same price point. We outline the full plan at consultation, including any adjunct therapies (oral minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride evaluation, scalp microneedling).
How many sessions of PRP will I need for hair?
Most patients see best results from a series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 6 months. The exact session count depends on the degree of thinning, scalp response, and whether we're layering with medical therapies. Visible improvement typically begins at 3–4 months, with peak result at 6–9 months. Maintenance is what protects the result long-term.
Does PRP work for women's hair loss?
Yes — PRP is a well-studied, effective non-surgical option for many patients with androgenetic alopecia, and it works best alongside proven medical therapies like minoxidil. Note: PRP for hair loss is an off-label use of an autologous biologic. Female hair loss often has additional drivers — iron, ferritin, thyroid, hormonal balance, postpartum factors, perimenopausal acceleration — and Aesura evaluates these as part of the plan because PRP works best when underlying causes are corrected.
What's the difference between PRP and PRF?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is processed at a single faster centrifuge spin and is rich in concentrated platelets and growth factors. PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) uses a slower, single spin with no anticoagulant, producing a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors more gradually over several days. Both work; PRF tends to have a slightly longer release curve. We use both depending on patient profile.
Can I do PRP if I'm on finasteride or minoxidil?
Yes — combining PRP with proven medical therapies typically produces better results than either alone. Most of our patients are on minoxidil (oral or topical) and many are on finasteride or dutasteride. Note: oral minoxidil for hair loss, dutasteride for hair loss, and finasteride for women are off-label uses prescribed at physician discretion based on emerging evidence. PRP is layered on top to push the response further. We coordinate dosing and timing as part of the plan.
Does it hurt?
There's discomfort during the scalp injections, which we manage with cold air, scalp anesthesia injections (a small ring block at the start), and Pro-Nox if helpful. Most patients rate the discomfort 4–5/10. The injection phase is brief — 10–15 minutes.
How soon will I see results?
Three patterns to expect. First, transient shedding is common between weeks 4–8 — old hairs cycling out faster than usual to make room for new ones; this is a sign the treatment is working. Second, the first visible thickening is at 3–4 months. Third, peak improvement is at 6–9 months after the initial series.
Will I be a candidate?
PRP works best for early-to-moderate hair thinning where active follicles still exist on the scalp. It cannot grow hair where the follicle is already gone (advanced bald scalp). The best candidates: men in early Norwood stages, women with diffuse thinning or postpartum loss, and patients in the early years of androgenetic alopecia. We assess at consultation and tell you honestly whether PRP is the right tool.
Can hair loss be a sign of something else?
Yes — and this is where Aesura's integrative approach matters. Hair loss can reflect iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, low ferritin, hormonal imbalance (testosterone, DHT, estrogen ratios), nutrient deficiencies, severe stress, or autoimmune conditions. Treating only the scalp without correcting underlying causes leaves results on the table. We test, and we coordinate hair treatment with our internal medicine and HRT teams when appropriate.
What about hair transplants — do you do them?
Aesura does not perform hair transplants. We do refer patients who are good candidates for surgical restoration to qualified hair-transplant surgeons, and we frequently see post-transplant patients with PRP to support graft survival and surrounding hair density.
Is downtime an issue?
Minimal. The scalp will be pink and tender for 12–24 hours. Most patients shower the next morning and return to work the same day. Avoid hair products, dye, and aggressive scrubbing for 24 hours. No exercise or sauna for 24 hours.
Can I combine PRP with microneedling?
Yes — many of our hair-restoration patients add scalp microneedling to the PRP session. The microchannels enhance growth-factor delivery and add a mechanical stimulus to the follicle. This is offered as an add-on to PRP sessions and prices separately.
